New nurse feeling burnt out

Specializes in Neuro med surg.

So I just started my job as a neuro med surg nurse in July- so a couple months ago. I had 6 weeks with a preceptor and have been on my own ever since, so about a month. I love nursing itself, giving meds , assessing patients, helping people. That being said, our unit right now is so understaffed. We each have 7 patients every night and most nights there are either no aids or 1 for the whole floor, so in addition to the nursing tasks we have to take them to the bathroom, Change them etc. in between trying to keep sick patients alive, stopping confused patients from jumping out of bed, and getting yelled at for being late on pain meds, my stress level is through the roof. I eventually want to work outpatient but am trying to get through the floor part of nursing. Any tips?
