Hi fellow Nurses! I would like to ask your advice please..I'm new LVN working at LTC with 40 residents.It's been 2 weeks already since I hired and working 2days ago by myself.I have a hard time dealing wit Cna's sometimes and with the residents that always refused to take their meds.Please advice guys on how to deal with this work as a new charge nurse.And what should I do with those resident always refused taking their meds.Very much appreciated your advice!!!

Honey, I promise you alot of it is that you are new. You should have never allowed them to put you on the floor if you did not feel comfortable. Your residents will warm up to you once they realize that you are confident in your practice. However, you will have a few that will refuse meds. I would document each time and after 3 days I would inform the MD and the family just to cover yourself. You may want to check your facility's policy on that.

I keep detailed documentation on my problem CNA which thank God they are few and far between. If you treat them like the way you want to be treated they will be the best help for you.....Get with a nurse that's been around for a long time and show yourself friendly. We all had to be a new nurse at one time or another. Good luck hun!

Thank you so much onepowerfullady!!!! I appreciate your reply.I know that I may need the helps of my Cna's that's why I tried to help them too like answering lights when they are busy.
