Hi guys! I'm a new RN and about to start an L&D RN job. I will be provided with 2 months of training, including classroom time, but I would like to start brushing up myself before I begin the job in a few weeks. I am reviewing my Power Points from school but I would like to know if anyone can recommend additional materials to get me prepared for this position? Thanks in advance!

I was new to labor and delivery myself about three weeks ago. I read this book before I hit the unit and it was truly really helpful.

Thanks Sandseaandstone! I saw that book and thought it looked good. How's it going in L&D? Excited and nervous at the same time :)
I've worked in a level one trauma ER for about five years. I knew that OB had a completely different lingo and so when I started applying for L&D, I started reading tons. I read that book I suggested, looked at an obstetrics book with case studies and started highlighting the common medications used in L&D in my med book. I'm midway through a fetal heart rate book, and am ordering my NRP so I can be certified on 1/8/14. I ran into a little grief from the nurses on the unit since they had preconceived notions about ER nurses (which surprised me), but once I let them know I want to learn and that I KNOW ER is way different than OB, they're receptive. I feel like I need to know everything---I always want to be in the position of protecting both of the patients from harm....the charting is immense compared to what I've done in the past---I'm sure after time that will come...how do you feel so far?
