new job. state is here! any tips?? please help!

Hello everyone! I'm a new grad still. I have been employed at my new job since Nov. State is here and I am not feeling so confident anymore. :uhoh3:My first day on the floor my nurse that was supposed to be training me sat at the nurses station and ate ice cream all night and decided to do some orders and some charting for me. I told her I would be more comfortable if she was with me to give me tips and help me out if I got behind and she said no you have to do it by yourself. So it was a really bad experience. She went and talked to the DON and said I wasn't doing good. And to the CNAs that i wasn't gonna cut it. But i stuck it out and my speed got better and i have been on the same hall since, and I know the residents now. So one of my questions is this same nurse came to me and told me I had to do an evaluation on a CNA she can't do it cuz it is conflict of interest they do not get along at all. So if wouldnt be fair. So I asked if DON knew and she said yes. But It made me feel uneasy that my bosses didn't come ask me or ask me If I felt comfortable with it. Im really not comfortable with it! So I looked at it and said you know I dont think I 'm ready to do this yet. and I gave it back to her. And she told me I had to do it. An I said I dont feel comfortable with it. And I'm still a new nurse and Im still in my probation period. So what I want to know has anyone ever heard of this? And is it right?? And also I have had ups and downs with CNAs nurses. people making up stuff about me I am a young nurse, but that doesnt give them a right to be talking about me to other nurses, my bosses and especially CNAs. It has put like a barrier with trust and my CNAs too! When my DON calls me in to talk about problems going on. I kind of react with shock because I feel like i'm getting better and I tell them that. And they also go to other Nurses and ask them about me and how I am doing. I wish they would come to me and ask me. So my other concern is with state being there. I go back to work tomarrow and they will probably watch me and my med pass. Any tips or advice would be great!! I'm kinda nervous about things like, if someone is on the bed pan and I bring them their meds, and they want to wait. Do I waste them and then come back later? Do I have them take them right then?? I am just really overwhelmd again!

Please help!!

If you need help from the person training you, be very specific regarding what you need. You could say, "Please show me how to do x" or "Please take a look at patient y, I am concerned about z." She obviously is not going to hold your hand, but if you need information or training and she refuses to provide it, then she is the one not doing so good.

Why don't you feel comfortable doing an evaluation on a CNA? This seems like a pretty basic task. If you are refusing or digging your heels in on things like that, you are certainly not doing yourself any favors. Of course they are going to push cr@p tasks on you. Just do the best you can and don't show any signs that it bothers you. (This is the best way to get revenge on petty coworkers.)

You seem to be getting excited and offended over some fairly mundane things. Of course they are asking other nurses how you are doing! Who the blazes do you think they are gonna ask? Start participating in your own training and stop acting shocked and defensive when they talk to you about things. As a new employee, the last thing they are going to want to hear is how good you think you are. Instead of being defensive say, "Thank you for pointing those items out to me, I will work hard to improve."

As far as state being there, just do your job right. You know how to pass meds, so do it correctly. If you take a bit longer because state is watching you, your superiors are not going complain if you get 0 errors.

Thank you for the advice. I think I am just being my own worst enemy right now! lol
