Hello fellow nurses,
I currently took a position for my dream job! I will be working on our Women's and Children's unit which means I will be doing Peds (YAY!), Postpartum/Mom&baby (YAY), and if I want to I can also be trained on Labor and Delivery (YAY but not so sure!). I already have TWO adult littman stethoscopes (I have two because they were graduation presents). One I have used on my Med-Surg unit and I really like it except the ear pieces are slightly bent (BTW, can I get that fixed??) and the other has just sat in the box since I got it!
So, my question is, since at my new job I will be caring for newborns all the way up to mommy's what kind of stethoscope should I get? I have heard Littman has a cardiology one that has adults and a peds all in one, but I already have two adult stethoscopes so I wasn't sure I wanted to get another AND I didn't know if peds stethoscope would be accurate and good on newborns? If I don't get that one, should I get a peds stethoscope or an OB one? I wasn't sure if one would be more accurate for both?
Any suggestions and tips would be greatly appreciated and loved. As you can probably see, I am excited to care for this population and want to provide the best possible care that I can, which involves finding the perfect stethoscope! Thanks in advance.
Sincerely,
Overly excited new Pedatric/OB/L&D RN
