Hi everyone, I'm hoping this post will give me some answers. I am a new grad as of June 2014. I boarded in July 2014 passed on the first attempt and began working in September 2014 at a hospital in Columbus,GA. I could not have asked for a better unit, better coworkers, better manager, or better nurse educator than what I received on my first job. My husband is active-duty and now we are stationed in Hattiesburg Mississippi. (9mo later) I have been at my new facility for over a month and absolutely having a difficult time transitioning.
What can you guys recommend to help me with this transition? I have heard horror stories of nurses going to work and absolutely dreading the drive into work. I never had that feeling at my old facility in Columbus, Georgia. I picked up extra shifts left and right because I absolutely loved working with my team. They were a sense of family, always working together. That is not the case here at the new facility. Patient ratio is 7:1. I'm lucky I am being sent through the orientation program which last 10 weeks.
Anyhow tell me your stories and give me guidance as to how you're able to adapt to different facilities without taking things personally and constantly thinking they are doing things "wrong" because it is different than the previous facility. On top of being a relatively new grad, I am a Yankee (upstate New York) in small town Mississippi who doesn't really take to outsiders.
TIA!
