New Hire Vaccine

Published

Hello all,

I am a new LPN looking for her first job. I had an interview at a LTC facility and began the drug testing/paperwork phase. I went today with my shot records in hand to fill out the paper work. The nurse in charge noticed that I had only one varicella vaccine. I told her I had been advised by two doctors and my local health department not to receive the second because I have had shingles before (twice actually). She said that what I was told was wrong and that I HAD to have two varicella shots if my titers came back low regardless of having shingles. She also said I am required to get a shingles vaccine (also against my doctors wishes- I'm 21) or I cannot work in that facility. I am confused by all of this because I went threw nursing school and working as a CNA with none of this being brought up.

Is this nurse correct? Or not?

Any input or advice is appreciated!

I may be wrong, but my understanding is that facilities can set their own requirements regarding vaccinations.

IMO, start with getting the titers drawn and go from there.
