Hello!!
I am new to this forum and wanted to start by introducing myself. My name is Shanelle, I am a new grad nurse in California. I recently got a job as an acute care assistant (basically an aide) on a telemetry unit in a local hospital. I was told at the beginning of my hire that there would be nursing positions opening up in a few months so I figured this would be a good place to start. That was January. There are 4-6 other ACA's on our floor who are RN's, me being the newest kid on the block. My director told me today that she thinks I would be moving up on the floor come Mid to end of summer this year.
Fast forward to today: I received a call from our transitional care unit asking me if I would like to work down there. The job is a per diem job (I am currently full time). Now, I know it is silly for me to turn down any job at this point in time, but I am:
1: not really familiar with a Transitional care position, what it entails etc
2. Not thrilled about a per diem job
3. Want to move to ER or ICU as soon as I can and have been told by other aids and nurses that going from telemetry to TCC is basically a step backwards in the climb to ER and ICU. (also am VERY interested in working in a Jail or prison locally and wonder if this experience will help or hurt me)
I guess I would just like some advice from anyone who has any for me, weather they have been in this boat or worked these floors, as I am stuck in a pickle
Thanks for your time!!
