Definitely talk to your preceptor and even your manager about this. They can help a lot. And you definitely want to talk about all this before your close to your 90 days because then if you don't it may be too late. This is what I should have done with my previous job, but instead I ended up getting laid off. ( I though I was fired but I got clarification from my manager that I was laid off..although I think she's just saying that to make me feel better) But in the end I got help too late and I ended up not being ready within the time I was supposed to so I was let go.
And you will get this..As long as you keep being an active learner, participating and asking lots of questions. Ask your preceptor how he/she feels you are doing with organization. Ask for tips! That's all I can say! Good luck and enjoy!!
Hello, I am new to this website this is my first post. I just started on the Med-Surg floor and I feel very overwhelmed I feel like there is so much to learn with so little time. My precepeptor is really nice but I feel that everything is going by so quick and I feel like I'm not catching on. I am going on my 3rd week and I feel so lost. I only have 3 months of training before I am on my own. I keep thinking.. "Am I gonna get all of this?" I feel like I don't know how to manage my time and I am not good with documentation/narratives. Is there any advice anyone can please give me? thank you all in advance.
Hi! I'm also a new grad...grad in dec 08, passed my boards in feb, and thankfully found a job recently! i, too, will be working on the med-surg unit. I start next week! I'm excited, but nervous at the same time. any tips for me? do you carry a lil notebook with you to jot down notes? i read the advice discussion for med-surg newbies...definitely helpful!
i'm sure you're doing great! :yeah:good luck! let me know how you're doing!
Oh congrats!!! :) at first I was carrying some extra paper to write down a few notes but I feel like they are running by things so quick I don't even have enough time to write. What I did start doing, is write down how my day went in a journal I bought. It really helps me. I just write what I learned and what I still need to work on.
Thank you for the advice. I will defenitely mention something. Sometimes I feel like I have days that were good and some days are like AHHH.... I do ask my preceptor questions but I feel like she is so rushed she doesn't even answer me. Last week I felt like she didnt' even want to be my preceptor because she was busy, and she even said, "maybe I shouldn't be your preceptor." I don't know she confuses me? I feel like she doesn't take the time to explain things througly. I really do need to mention something before IT is to late. Thank you so much for the advice. :)
