New grad in specialty area

I graduated in April and started a full time position on a maternal child unit right after school. I did my preceptorship on the unit and was lucky to get a job but I was barely given an orientation...I had 4 buddy shifts and then got thrown into doing labours on my own. The unit is very busy and most shifts are short staffed. My schedule kept being changed and I ended up doing all nights in July....by the end of the month I felt so burnt out and have been dreading going into work for every shift, I've also been sick a few times and feel that the stress is wearing on me physically and mentally. I know that I should appreciate my position but lately I just want a change, I've heard from most people that it takes a year to really feel comfortable but I don't know if I can last through it. I've considered asking to go casual to have a bit of a break and have more control of my schedule....what are your thoughts on this? Ive also considered trying to find a position on another unit but the thought of orientating to a new unit makes me feel sick....did anyone else have a such a hard time? It seems like everyone I graduated with loves their job..
