Going to be graduation shortly, and have heard horror stories about new grads trying to find jobs. I was wondering if there are any certifications that I can get (in a relatively timely manner) that will make me for marketable? I have an "in" at a psychiatric facility with the state (CA). That just is not what I want to do though... I am planning on continuing my education, I will be graduating with my BSN and then going for my MSN directly after and from their I will take a look around and figure things out. For now, I need to know how to get HIRED!!! Ideally I would like to work in a neonatal unit....If begger's simply can't be choosers please let me know, and I'll take the "in" and use that as a starting point to get experience.

I think you answered your own question at the end there. Take the "in" to get your feet wet, but keep looking for the right fit in the mean time while you are continuing school.
I keep hearing stories about new grads not finding jobs also...Im all the way over hear in Michigan...I hope I at least get an "in" SOMEWHERE by the time I graduate.
Good Luck!

PERSISTENCE! Oh and you may have to take a job to get your feet wet that wouldn't be your first choice. Be flexible and open :)
I worked in long term care, skilled acute rehab for 6 mths before I was offered a critical care position...then moved onto surgery, my passion :) I graduated in 2009. Good luck!
