New grad RN relocating with little experience

Published

I graduated with my BSN in December 2016. I passed boards and got hired at a level IV NICU in Indianapolis. I started working there in March 2017. Fast forward to now- my fiancé received a job offer he could not refuse, so we will be relocating to the Dayton, Ohio area. I am planning on staying at my current job until the end of the year, which will give me about 9 months of new grad RN experience. What I am concerned about is my lack of experience. I have heard that you want at least one year of experience before applying for a new job. Will facilities consider me, even though I have not been a nurse for quite a year? On top of this, I would like to change specialties. I like the NICU, but I do not have a passion for it like I know I do with pediatrics. So, I'm worried it be even harder applying for jobs that aren't NICU. Any advice is welcome :)

This might not be feasible...but personally, if it were me, I would stay in Indy another 3-4 months to get the year of experience. Perhaps you could do a short term sublet or rent out a room while your husband gets settled in? I have no clue what the job market is like in OH. It's quite possible you could get a job with only 9 months, can't know till you try! Good luck too in switching to Peds...perhaps you could get hired in a NICU and then switch to the Peds department in a similar facility?
