New grad rn with first job....help!!!

Published

I am beginning to understand the saying, "nurses eat their young." I've been working at a LTC facility for almost a month now. The others nurses are talking about me behind my back and I feel that they are just waiting for me to do something wrong. When I come in, many of them just stare at me. A few of the older nurses are a little more receptive and willing to take the time to help me and answer questions. The nurses seem so concerned with covering their a$$es that the patient is no longer the focus of care. They spend a lot of time crowded in groups and wasting time in work gossip. I personally chose to keep my distance and not subscribe to it all. I am eager to learn as much as I can and be the best nurse I can be, but it's hard with everyone else looking at you as though you're from another planet and treating you as such.

Any advice???
