New Grad RN Columbus Ohio, Need Advice!!

U.S.A. Ohio

Published

Hello everyone!! I'm new to allnurses.com and the profession of nursing. I just completed my associates degree in Nov. So here's why I need advice. I have no patient care experience other than clinical hours from school. I was in sales the past 8 years and I have very good people skills. The market is tight for new grads and I'm finding that my lack of patient care is a major problem. Does anyone have any suggestions for finding a job as an RN or at least getting some patient care experience even if not as an RN? Many thanks!!

Keep applying and don't give up. I've heard at OSU you need to call HR frequently to follow-up. It took me 8 months to just get a call back for a tech position and I had previous experience. Columbus has a lot of nursing schools (Otterbein, Capital, CSCC, OSU, Chamberlain) so there are a ton of new grads constantly in the city.

Make sure to also look at all the hospitals within OhioHealth and Mt Carmel and be working to work flexible shifts (day, night, rotating, etc).

Hello, I am a current New Grad from Toledo, OH and graduated from Mercy College here and looking to possibly relocate to Columbus considering many of my friends live in the area and there seems to be a lot more going on there than my current city. So I've looked at the different hospital systems and it seems there are many locations for most of the hospitals. I also looked at Ohio state university and it seems as a new grad you can only get in as an internship position that only accepts so many, in Feb and Aug? So I'll probably have to count that out. I am interested in critical care, which I realize will most likely only happen if I stay here and take a job at a hospital I did clinical rotations at, although how are the hospital's there for internal candidate transfers?

Thanks for any and all help
