New grad! Questions about CEUs in CT

U.S.A. Connecticut

Hi!

I'm a May 2010 graduate doing the job search thing, waiting to hear back about positions and wanting to continue to improve my knowledge and resume in the meantime. I have a few questions, and I would be very appreciative to anyone who would like to attempt an answer at any or all of them!

1. I looked on this website: http://ce.nurse.com/RStateReqmnt.aspx and it said that CT does not require CEU's. I also checked the DPH site and found no information about it. Are CEU's something that hospitals usually require as part of the job, as opposed to something that is mandated by the state?

2. I think CEU's should be required for all nurses. Has there been any talk of this in nursing news recently? I have not been able to find anything about it, but I only did a quick Google search. Is this something I should write to my senators about?

3. Would it be beneficial for me to do the CEU's anyway, for my own benefit and to make me more marketable? If so, how would I go about doing this? Do I just send them in and get a certificate of completion or other proof that I can show potential employers?

Thank you for any information you can give me! :)
