New Grad Nurse - Starting new job next week at Rhode Island Hospital

Published

Hey everyone! I just joined allnurses.com and I love all of the great info and advice from other nurses out there!

I'm from MA, just graduated with my BSN in May and passed the boards (here in MA) this summer - and finally got a job at Rhode Island Hospital on Co-Op 3 which is a General Surgery/Trauma Unit! I am really excited AND really nervous!!! Being a new nurse is intimidating and I was wondering if anyone had any advice for me just starting out on such a busy and interesting unit as this one!

Also, if any one currently works at RIH, what info can you share with me about working there overall? Seems like a great place to start being a large teaching hospital and Level I Trauma Center!

Thanks so much!

Hey there! Congratulations!

I've been applying to RIH all summer, too. Did you apply for a RI license first, or only after you were offered a job?

I've only heard good things about RIH!

Hey thank you so much!

No I actually didn't apply for my RI license until after I interviewed then got the job offer - I thought it would take a long time for reciprocity to go through since I have my current nursing license in MA, but within a week of sending in my huge application and check to get my license in RI, it's all set!

Have you heard anything back from them about jobs?! You from MA too?

Yes, I currently have my MA license, too.

I got a call in June about a new grad pediatric position I applied for - the woman from HR was asking everyone their top choice of floors, but never heard anything afterwards, for that position or any of the others I've applied for since.
