Hi,
Has anyone heard/experienced a job shortage in Calgary for new grads? I'm graduating in April, and heard that there are limited graduate positions. Does anyone out there have any experience with this? Am I worrying for nothing? My resume is in with the CHR for April, but I am still concerned.......Thanks.

CHR recruiter said, there is no shortage within CHR.
Job market always change.
Good luck for your future.

when i initially talked to the recruiting office, they made it sound as if i was SOL because i missed the boat on the April "grad" positions last year... in fact, she told me that i probably wouldn't get hired until September... the next day, a manager called me and after a phone interview, offered me a job... so, goes to show what the recruiters know! :chuckle
i had no problem getting a job with the CHR last April as a new grad... i just applied for jobs that interested me on the CHR nursing site (http://www.calgaryhealthregion.ca/supp/hr/employ/Nursing_title.htm)...
getting in with the new grad positions is probably better to get you into certain specialities, though...
ETA: the 2 units i work on ALWAYS seem to be hiring... of course, there's lots casual positions as well...

That is great to hear! I was wondering if it would be better to go to the unit managers and apply for jobs? The CHR advised against this, but I've heard that more people get the jobs they want this way?
I want to work casual for the summer, as I am not too sure what area I want to specialize in. I think it is strange that the CHR actually told us that there is a shortage of positions - they did not make clear however, what positions they were referring to, ie. casual or permanent. Nothing worse than sinking a boat load of money into your education, along with all the other costs and then to be told "oh sorry, no jobs". It really left a lot of my class mates feeling discouraged.
Thanks again for the info, any more info would be greatly appreciated!
