New grad- advice needed!

Published

I am in the process of moving to Virginia (norfolk area) from Texas and have a few questions regarding hospitals. After doing some research I have decided to apply to Sentara, Bon Secours and Chesapeake Regional Hospital. Just wondering if anyone had advice on these hospitals? Im a new graduate and would appreciate any advice/tips? Thanks!

Hey! I'm in your exact shoes and going crazy, since I have already secured a job in Texas. I worked at Sentara before and absolutely loved it. From what I can see (or missed), they don't have a new grad program. Chesapeake is nice, but serves a different population than most of the other hospitals. I'm pretty sure they also have a new grad program. I have always heard good things about Bon Secours but have no experience with them. Good luck to you!

When I moved to the area, I was told by several people to avoid Sentara. [The reason I was told was that they are great to patients but not to their nurses. You can learn a lot from them, but beware of high turnover.] Chesapeake regional is currently accepting applications for their residency program that starts in February. Bon Secours has a good reputation. Also consider Riverside. They have several hospitals on the peninsula and to the north. There is a children's hospital and military hospitals, but you may need BSN or experience for there.
