new cna

I just got my licenses as a CNA i have been working in a nursing home for about two months and i have became stressed out. We are short staffed all the time feels like i cant breath at times. I go home over tired i can barely drive home with my eyes open. The residents love me and i love making them smile and feel good. But not having enough staff is insane. Missing my lunch break and barely getting a bathroom break. Does anymore else has an opinion or advice. I have applied for other jobs in a different setting because im ready to stop stressing. I shadowed at another job for 2a weeks and felt no stress or anything feel right in like it was my real job. Just waiting because i havent been back to work and hope someone calls me

What you described is more often than not what goes on in LTC. I work LTC and we are short almost every shift, every week. Eventually I adjusted to it and accepted that it was the reality of where I work. It wouldn't be so bad if the concept of teamwork was recognized and enforced but all I hear is talk of how we need to work together with no effort on the part of the upper echelons to ensure it's happening.

Knowing whether or not the job is for you is important! ^.^ Though you seemingly have the heart, passion, and drive to do it. In many ways it is stressful as ever working short staffed! Just remember that there is something positive with most negatives in life, and that being short can teach you some hella time management skills ;) Try not to be too overwhelmed... the job gets much easier with time, as well as feeling less stressed while short staffed.
