Nervous LVN Student

Published

I start LVN school this month a Sacramento City College. I'm just not sure if I'm making the right decision. My ultimate goal is to become a RN. I still need A&P(1&2) and Micro. So I thought in the mean time that I would get my LVN and than Bridge to RN. I'm starting to have second thoughts about starting LVN school. I'm wondering if I should just finish up all my RN prereq's and still work, which could take two more years and then start applying to for RN. I need some help.

Hi dreamingtobeaRN! I'm going to start my VN classes on Monday. Just like you my ultimate goal is to be a RN. The reason why I chose to become a LVN first is because I'm just so eager to get into the medical field. lol. I can't wait! I think it will be easier to be a LVN first and then bridge to the RN program since the wait-list is a lot shorter. I have friends who are taking the more traditional route and it's been three years, and their still waiting to get into the program. Not to mention, you can enter a facility as a LVN, and if they offer tuition reimbursement they can help you be a RN, too. Hope this helps. :-)

I am very, very glad that I achieved my LPN and then went on to get my RN- it does and can happen! The years of experience I made (and money) while being an LPN was **invaluable** when I started RN school. The edge was gone- I wasn't nervous, I knew what to expect, and I could afford life in general better. It reduced my stress during RN school. I think becoming an LPN made me a better nurse in the end by far! Good luck, because in the end it's just a decision you have to make.
