Nerves

Published

Don't get me wrong, I am super excited to be starting nursing school soon..but I am sooooo nervous. My program is accelerated so it makes it even more nerve racking. I was very good in A & P I and II, loved those classes but I am terrible at math. I will just get that on the table. I struggle with it terribly, I wish it were different but alas..

I did very well in pathophysiology last summer- LOVED the class. I just did not do so well in Chem (B) and stats (B). I know that in nursing school that will be my biggest obstacle. I am going to have to spend so much extra time I feel like just getting the math portion of the classes that I am worried that I will not be able to study adequately for everything. Maybe I am just freaking out for no reason...IDK. I just am reading all of these posts on here and I am getting nervous. I know my biggest weakness and I just hope it does not cripple me :( Anyway, I just had to get that off my chest.

I still have a few months before I start my program so I need to relax and enjoy having a life while I can :)

It is good that you know your weaknesses going into it. There really is not a ton of math in nursing school but it is important that you be able to do it. Since you have a couple months until you start, I would suggest looking for a book on math for nurses (maybe someone will have a specific recommendation) and find a tutor among your friends or family - they do NOT have to be a nurse in order to help you because it is math and should make sense to anyone who is good at math. If you run into something you can't figure out, go to a nurse (if you know one) or come hear and ask someone to explain it. And stats are not that big of a part of nursing school so I wouldn't sweat it.

Doing this will reduce your stress and will really benefit you when you get to school. The fact that you understand A&P and patho will be a great help in school and as a nurse. Many students struggle because they do not have a good foundation in those which are crucial.

As far as doing an accelerated program, it is intense but definitely doable. I loved the program I did and was very glad I had done the accelerated one. Congrats on getting accepted and I hope you love it too.

Thanks so much! Also thanks for the tip about brushing up on my math. I was looking into purchasing a review book the other day and decided I would wait until I figured out what sort to buy- I was looking at algebra and stats books. I will look into books geared more toward "mathematics in nursing". If anyone has any more suggestions I would appreciate any input.

:( can't send no more than 2 PMs an hour which sucks but here is my response

I have the newest edition.... I would recommend that book simply because my aunt let me borrow her older edition and it wasn't as good so if anything I would go

one edition below the newest one..

The new one shows how they came up with their answers and give great examplee

try amazon... Or use gettextbooksnow.com where you can put in the ISBN and they give you all the sites and prices... My school uses textbookx.com for us to get books.... You can try there too

I don't think I do drips till next semester but I will keep you updated as much as I can!

That does suck!

I will check into those websites you suggested and see if I can find one for cheaper. It sounds like that is the book I need to get.

Good luck with the rest of your semester and on into the next one! Thanks again!

I've started on drips.... It's not that bad... I walked in blind to tutoring after trying to figure it by myself... spent 3.5hours getting it!

There really isn't a formula you use except to get gtt/min.... Its kinda confusing but doable!
