I am currently a 34 year old CNA on a rehab floor of a LTC facility. I was a stay at home mom for 6 years and eager to start my pre req's for nursing school. Everyone I work with including the nurses are so negative about this career choice. I have never told anyone my plans because I am constantly overhearing conversations about how everyone is going for nursing these days and that there are no jobs ect ect. It's so frustrating and try not to let it get to me but sometimes it's hard. Lately I have been 2nd guessing my career choice. Any one else have to deal with this?

Good day, becalee26:
This may sound cliche, but it is your life you are living... not their life. Every profession will have people who are negative about their job. What do you like about it? Do you see yourself doing it? Can you be passionate? Can you care? Since it is your life (not their life), that's all that matters.
Thank you.

I have been in a lot of different fields and there is negativity in all of them. Now that's not to say some area aren't impacted, because they are. But I honestly feel that if you do well in school and when you graduate make a good resume and interview well, you shouldn't have a problem finding a job. Much of the problem that you will see in these forums when new grads come in and complain that they can't find a job they either had a horrible resume or bombed the interview. I was just looking on the internet looking at job openings in my area for nursing and there were many. And about half did not require any experience or a BSN.
