I have just started orientation at a small rural hospital. They are just NOW beginning to implement and stock needles that have safety devices on them. Is it just me, or have they been a little behind the power curve? Hopefully all the new needles will be in stock once I start on the floor.

I am not surprised. a couple years ago I worked in a rural hospital in area, where my husband was stationed. I made $14. an hour and after my first week, they said when I do a night shift (we rotated shifts) I would be the only RN on the floors and I would be in charge of 3 units. Also there were no doctors on at night (they were on call) and said I would run any codes that happened. I did have my ACLS but still a nurse is not allowed to run a code unless you're an icu nurse. I questioned that and was told well do you want to watch a pt die that doesn't have to or lose your license. I quit that week and drove 95 miles to the only other hospital there was. When I called the state board of that state and questioned it. She said being a rural hospital as that one, the rules are different in rural areas, but couldn't give me specifics. I feel your pain.
