OK! Here to vent some frustrations! Hahah I do acute dialysis. I cover my own hospital and sometimes pick up shifts at different hospitals (same employer).
In general, I picked up a shift and I specifically picked a certain hospital with this one manager. She put me on the schedule to work, I showed up and she has some else working my shift! I called her and she said sorry my bad. She told me to call my own manager to see if help is needed on my side. I told her that I will not call my manager and I will be taking the day off since she did not need my help. (In my head: Sorry, I don't do staffing, not my job.). I also mention that they probably have enough nurses (I wasn't too worried about this particular comment. It will bite me later on). I absolutely do not want to pick up shift at my own hospital because I need to be away from it for my mental health, already working there full time every week. I have some overdue education so I decided to be proactive and went back to my hospital and work on my education which we are allowed to do! My manager saw me and asked me several times if I wanted to stay and help. I said no. I told her that I am here just for the education and my extra shift was canceled at the other hospital. She jokingly said that I only wanted to help the other manager out (mind you, I picked up a lot of shifts at my own hospitals in the past). I told her I feel lazy now and I don't want to pick up. A few mins later she stormed into my area while on the phone with the other manager and said that I told the other manager that my side is staffed. I said we have a normal ratio of nurses (there's no hole in the schedule because I have the schedule with me). Apparently, we got slammed with incoming patients! (Even if I told the manager we are short-staffed, she has nobody to float over here. She, herself is critically short staff hence why I picked up the shift LOL.) I asked my manager what she wanted me to do about that comment I made regarding we are "staffed". She said nothing and not to make comments like that next time. I was like...OK. Got 99% of my education done, headed out. In the parking lot, I was bothered about the interaction. Texted her explaining that I am stressed out at work and like to pick up shifts at different hospitals for the change of pace. I GOT A NASTY reply saying how I am not a teammate, I lied, and my education that day took too long (like when is this a problem LOL? I had to retest a few modules about how to use security emails, you know the deal LOL) and etc. Oh....I let her have it. Still professional languages ;). I DEBUNKED all of her claims with screenshots from text messages with the other manager about how I only pick up for a few hrs instead of the whole day (I did request to only work for a few hrs as my extra shift, NOT A WHOLE 16HR day). Showed her my text messages. She said its policy (I still don't think there is a policy for this LOL) that when I picked up, I am to cover my own hospital if my extra shift is canceled (if I knew this, I would have never picked up!). I asked her why she didn't inform me about this "policy" in the education area and that I needed to stay because my extra shift was canceled? I have already left for the day.
What I think I did wrong
Not knowing about this "policy" which I realllllly don't think there is one. But OK.
Maybe willing to stay and help but again why would I have to kill myself to help others out when I have already put my time in.
Maybe if I should have called her when the other manager asked me to but again why do I need to call her on my day off and do staffing which is NOT my job.
What I think she did wrong.
Plenty. Hostile. Going from 0-100. I will now no longer be picking up shifts and guess what.....we are short like 5 nurses on both hospitals. They don't hire agencies or travelers. Totally rely on staff nurses to pick up shifts. I will enjoy watching the train wreck from here on out. I will just do my 3 days a week, easy. Guess no more LV and Gucci for me LOL
