Hi Monica,
I hate to be the bearer of bad news. But I had to retake the pharmacology class. I found an online program that started right away and was finished in 10 weeks. Then the process for approval at the BRN took some time (a story for another time), but I started my first NP job last month!
Good Luck!

Wow! Thank you for the reply!! And so happy that you got that course out the way!! Congratulations!! Did you graduate from a California NP Program/college?

I contacted the CA BRN for my FNP application - both furnishing and practice license were approved without my having to retake an advanced pharmacology course. However- I completed a CA based FNP university program and graduated. The only concern I had is that I took that course more than 5 years prior to applying. It wasn't an issue.

Hi Albert would you mind sharing where you took this course?

Hi Monica, my husband is in the same situation, but took his pharmacology course in 2018... can I ask why it wasn't an issue? Did you just apply and they approved it? He has a job offer in California pending his license. He attended a major university in Arizona

Hello everyone,
I had gradated from my FNP program back in 2018 and due to a variety of life events, I did not pursue my FNP career until recently. I am proud to announce that I was able to finally pass my ANCC boards (just yesterday) and was dismayed when I found out my Advanced Pharmacology course was more than five years ago.
I haven't tried to contact the BRN yet, but I was wondering if there was some input from everyone here.
I desperately tried looking for a 45 hour CE that would allow me to apply for my initial FNP furnishing application and found some previous post (from 2018), noting that Barkley's Advanced Pharmacology course was successful. However, checking the website today, It states: "This course may not be used to meet the initial California Board of Registered Nursing NP requirements for furnishing/prescriptive authority."
My plan is to call the BRN and Barkley tomorrow to get some clarification, but if I'm unable to use Barkley's CE course, do you guys have any recommendations?
