In Spring 2007 I started the 1st semester of El Centro's ADN program. I worked very hard for 3 years getting all A's just to get into the program. I got in and within a month I had to make the tough decision that it was not for me and I withdrew from the program. I was so nervous when it came to doing anything in skills lab. I was super nervous when doing vitals, etc. and I didn't do very well and that just made things worse for me. I decided to take some time to figure out what I wanted to do since that did not work out for me.
In Summer 2009 I started the Rad Tech program at a different community college and did fine with it. I was very scared that I'd have the same issues that I did in nursing school but I didn't. I don't know what was so different but I started feeling like maybe El Centro's program just was not a good fit for me. Maybe the timing wasn't right for me since I had to quit a full time job to start nursing school and had not secured a part time job yet. ??? I didn't see all that then but I see it now.
In my very first semester of Rad Tech school clinicals I got feedback from the other techs telling me that I had excellent patient care skills and one even asked why I didn't go into nursing instead. Until then I really tried to put nursing out of my mind. As much as I tried to ignore it, I just couldn't. I graduated from Rad Tech school in 2011 and now I work with nurses everyday in the ER at a partnered THR facility. With where I work I'm in a position to go back to school and be a RN if I want. I am considering UTA's traditional BSN (non-online) since I have so many of their prereqs done already with a 4.0 GPA.
I'd like some HONEST feedback from others on my situation please. Thank you in advance!
