Need help!

Hello nurses! My name is Jessie and will be graduating in june with my LPN. School is hard seeing as I have a 6 year old. I rely on friends and my boyfriends parents for help. We currently live with them. See i have no family for help. This year has been hard... My boyfriend dont understand, life is turned upside down. I also work weekends at a nursing home as a STNA..I didnt know if I should just go online for the lpn to rn program? or will i never get hired anywhere doing it online...I want my RN bad but dont know if I can do it. Also I need to work as a LPN...It seems that homecare is all thats out there...I live in Xenia, Ohio...How do I find out what places hire LPN's? I dont want to work in a nursing home. I want to work in the nursery. Also do jails hire LPN's?

Thanks

Ohio is dead right now. You can probably get a home health position.

You seem really discouraged. I would try looking online for LPN courses. You have to do a lot of clinical work, so would still need to be away for that. Same is true with RN courses. Most nurseries hire RN's only, but that is not always true. You could go online to hospitals in your area to see which jobs are posted and get an idea of what is the market right now.

classicdame: I will be a LPN in June. Im doing very well in school. My family is falling apart in the midst of it all and living with my boyfriends parents is not a walk in the park. i just didnt know if i did get my RN online if jobs would look down on me.

Check into the LPN to RN program at Kent State, there are several branches in NE Ohio, I found Kent to be very easy to work with, especially for a working Mom. I have only ever met one nurse who got her LPN to RN online, and she really struggled for a long time in the RN world. I have worked with many nurses who bridged through the Kent program, and they did wonderful! Good luck!

As for the job market, Ohio is a tough place to be a nurse right now. Can you get a position as an LPN in the LTC you currently work in as an Aide? I live in NE Ohio as well, and hospital jobs are few and far between for both RNs and LPNs around here. I would try LTC or home health to get your foot in the door. Again, good luck!

What do you mean struggled in the rn world?

I mean that she had very little clinical time to hone her hands-on skills in comparison to someone who entered a non-online program. I believe she spent 2 or 3 days at a hospital to pass her clinicals, that's it. Now, obviously she was competant or she wouldn't have passed, but when she began to practice on her own as an RN she was very timid and unsure. Then again, that could be her personality, and maybe it wouldn't have mattered what program she graduated from. I guess it makes me a biased since she is the only person I know who did LPN to RN online. I know plenty who have done the RN to BSN online, however, they have great things to say about the cost of classes, the convenience with their work schedule, etc. I guess the only way to know for sure is to do the research and make sure you choose a reputable online school. Also, check into where they would expect you to travel for your clinical rotations, that could be inconvenient as you have children to say, fly across the country since that is where your school is based. Whatever you choose, throw yourself into it, and I wish you the best!
