Need help re-learning how to study/note taking skills

Published

As some here may have seen from my last post, I am getting ready to start my educational quest to becomming a nurse. As I have not been in any type of formal class room instruction in a loooong time, I feel it would be invaluble to myself if I were able to obtain a excellent sorce of information that I could use to teach myself the best way to take notes, study, and organize all my class related info to optimize my learning ability as well as maximize my time spent studying. Obviously there is a great way and even could be considered a actual skill to be able to maximize your studying/note taking/class time and I doubt if I will come by this skill simply by going to college and trying to learn it on the fly while in class.

Back when I (now much to my regret) droped out of (pre-nursing) college to become a electrician, the apprenticeship program I went through was still assosiated with a local community college. Thay offered a unique refresher cource that specilized in the type of classes I would be taking during my first year of the apprentiship that included as well a excellent cource on how to take notes, flash card prep, take tests, time management, and the best way to study. In short how to survive if you had not been in school in a long, long time. The typical flunk out rate of my apprenticehip program was on average 40%. Basicly the program took the equivalet of an entire years worth of college in four seperate subjects and compressed it into ten weeks. Hence the minimum average failure rate of 40%.

I honestly doubt I would have passed the apprenticeship program without having taken the refresher cource. Now that I wish to start my education all over again, it only makes sence that going through as close as to the same kind of "refresher corse" as I can now find would be of great help to myself.

I will look into the possability that a college near me offers such a program, but I would truely appreciate if anyone here knows of any sorce that would prove helpfull to me, or has any suggestions on what I should do. I am not that good at playing "scholastic catch up" once I get more than a little behind in a class, so I need all the help I can get to try to hit the campass ground running, once I start school, hopefully this summer.

Thanks for anyones help on this and for your time spent doing so.

Be well,Arthur.
