need some help: new grad/ license

U.S.A. Georgia

Published

Hey guys. I will graduate this week w/my BSN from Alabama. :)

I need some help. I am thinking of working in Nashville or Atlanta. If I'm correct, in GA...you aren't allowed to work at all until you have passed the boards. Is this correct?

I know other places let you work beforehand. My school isn't helping those of us who want to work out of state. So, maybe you guys could give me some advice about how I go about taking the boards,etc... I was looking at the state board website, but I didn't see any dates where I could take the test. It's all stressing me out! Any advice would be great.

I applied for Emory. Anyone work there? Know the pay rates for new grads?

I think your best bet is to take the boards for alabama and then endorse to Georgia. Georgia is not the fastest state to begin with and you would have to have transcripts sent for them to verify that your education meets their requirements. While I'm sure it does, it just takes time for it to be done. If you take the NCLEX for Alabama your school will pave the way and you will test soorer and endorsement will take less time. Georgia does not allow new grads to work as nurses until they pass the NCLEX. At the hospital where I work you must have the license in hand to work.

Hope this helps, good luck on the NCLEX:)

If you want to work in GA, then by all means take the NCLEX and sit for GA. It will cost some money and time to endorse for GA and you apparently do not want the Alabama license anyway. Just call the number on the testing forms that you fill out and ask them how to do it. You will still need permission to test- and you can test for GA in Alabama at the testing center. A frined of mine sat her boards physically in NY but for CA.

It is the same NCLEX- so while it might take yu a bit of time to figure it out- it will save you some time and money to just get a GA license.
