Hello Allnurses Community,

I have to say I really enjoy this website:up:. Well, I need some advice on my career path. I'm currently working part-time at a major hospital as a patient care asst. (oncology unit) in my area. I took on this job knowing that I'm in school full-time. I have a family and I'm a single parent. I know everyone on here has a different story to tell. But I really need some urgent help. I have been only working at my job less than a month. I really love this position, but I know that I need to finish school. I have been working on my degree for a long time. My degree is basicly paid for. I don't mean to boast, but it does give me a good opportunity to finish without having to worry about the tuititon being paid. I really need to be working, but the job I have requires 12 hour shifts. I have been so back logged on my studies and I just don't know how to balance everything out. I was also thinking about doing a one year LVN program, so I can get better pay. I haven't got accepted into my BSN program yet because I need to redo two classes. I think I will be able to apply in fall 08. I don't know what to do

I know how hard it is to have to work and go to school and be a single parent, I know because I am doing it! I am in my second semester of an ADN program and I have to work too. I am waitressing to help pay my bills and also took out extra student loans to lighten the load! You just have to place your priorities in order and then decide what is your best option. For me, school along with my son are my top prorities because if I have to sacrifice a little by not working alot, then I know I can focus on my studies and get good grades and be able to make a better life for me and my son. I know it will be a very tough year, but in the end I am doing the right thing for the rest of my life.

Good Luck in what you decide!:pumpiron:

Can you get a student loan to live off of?
