Need help critiquing a qualitative study please??

Published

I have to critique a qualitative study and they said identify the concepts of the study? and also identify conceptual or theoretical frameworks if there are any.

I am getting confused as to what the concepts are?

my article is about collaborative decision making between parents and children with chronic illnesses.

Is the concept collaborative decision making?

or are concepts what the researcher has found among the interviews of the parents and children? like the themes? Cause I know quantitative doesn't have concepts, they have variables right?

I am confused! please help!

I do not understand what you are asking can you narrow in your question. I may not be the best person to answer your question since I do not believe qualitative research is reliable anyways. But I know you are not going to get an answer because you question does not really make sense.

Hm, that does sound confusing. I'm also taking a Nursing Research course right now, so I feel your pain!

Have you tried looking at your textbook's definition of "concept" in relation to qualitative studies? One thing that comes to my mind is that "concepts" could be the same things as "phenomena", which are basically all incredibly vague terms that can mean just about anything. Personally, I think "concepts" in this case could refer to any of the major themes or phenomena in the study. Like you said, "collaborative decision making" would be a big one. I think you're on the right track : )
