Need advice on VA PACU job

Published

Hi! I have recently applied for a job at the VA PACU. I had my phone interview today and got called back about 2.5 hours later to

come in this Monday and have my face-to-face interview. I understand the interview process is long and getting hired and started may take a while... If I get hired at all! But I have some questions I would LOVE answered if anyone out there has

an answer for me!

1. In the PACU we would rotate through three areas: PACU/recovery, Pre-op, and GI lab/cath lab. Does anyone have any input on these three areas, namely GI/cath lab? What would I be doing exactly? I understand pre-op is a lot of starting IVS, pepper for surgery, etc and PACU is taking care of a pt after surgery, sometimes ventilated etc.

2. How do shifts at the VA work when you're in the PACU. I know they are 5 8-hours shifts but is that M-F or do I have to work weekends too? What about being on-call??

3. How are pay increases at the VA?

4. What do you like most about the PACU in general? What are the cons too?

5. At the VA, working 5 8-hours shifts a week, how much PTO/vacation time do you get?

I'm sure there are a thousand other questions I have and this is just the tip of the iceberg, so if you have any knowledge on this topic, be it PACU knowledge or specifically VA PACU, or just VA in general... Let me hear it! It doesn't have to be just for the topics I listed... Literally anything at this point will be more than helpful! Thanks in advance guys!
