I'm feeling burned out and I'm thinking of quitting to do some traveling.( I've been saving to do this for many years and I have been delaying going for awhile ). I'm not sure how long I'll go for. I'd probably want to take a travel agency assignment when I'm done. Should I apply to several agencies now, explaining that I won't actually be picking up any assignments for at least 6 months? Or should I wait until I am done traveling? I think it would be easier to get references from people before I leave. How should I handle this?

Maybe you could get the references now, but just hang on to them until after you're done traveling and ready to apply at some agencies? Or you could even contact an agency and let them know that you're planning to take some time off before working, and see if they have any advice on what they would rather you do.
