I am currently an RN in an ICU on nights. I'm going to school for my BSN and will be done December 2012. The origional plan was to HOPEFULLY start the FNP program Fall 2013 and continue working through the program in the hospital. However, lately I have been questioning weather or not I should go that route. I am 25 and married and we both have had the baby fever since we got married, but now its not just baby fever it's quite overwhelming for me. My issues are: I wanted to be done with school before babies, I really don't want to work night or even in acute care anymore, and I really wanted to be able to provide all of the extra things for our family (hints wanting the NP). Is it going to be worth all of the work, the APA head ache, waiting to have kiddos, or working 2 1/2 more years in acute care! I mean, if I do get my FNP there is no telling what health care in the US will look like. I realize I am young and have plenty of time... that is all the advice I get around here (not helpful) but I am having a partial breakdown over this. I am really interested in hollistic nursing and thought some how I could incorporate that with my FNP. I live in west TX and I am not aware of any practicing holistic nurses or doctors to get my hours in to qualify or the cert. WOW....one gigantic rambling rant! Any insights at all would help!
