Need some advice on Nursing Programs

Ok, so my husband was offered a job in Georgia, right outside of Macon, and I am just in the swing of trying to go back to school.

I need some advice from actual nurses as opposed to recruiters for colleges. I am having issues getting into local colleges because the waiting lists are so long (most only allow 50 people in per semester...). There is though a college locally which has a LPN program I could start right away, something I hadn't considered earlier because up in Ohio there are an abundance of colleges I was able to get into.

My questions are pretty simple: Is getting an LPN then moving to RN a big deal? Will I be hindered in anyway by having an LPN beforehand? If I got my LPN, could I get an LPN-to-RN degree online without a hassle (my worry would be the clinicals)?

I really appreciate any help or any suggestions people have about what are good programs and what aren't, its just kind of a shock to me going from a location where I had dozens of nursing schools to choose from to a place where there are only 2 campuses I have found which have an RN program, and both I will have trouble getting into because of their admission numbers.

I don't know, but I am also considering that too, because of the wait for all these schools in GA. I have a friend who did that years ago. There is one class you have to take to bridge you from LPN to RN before you take the 2nd year. Some schools require you work as an LPN for a year before you can bridge, others don't. I'm curious to know if anyone answers your question.

In the meantime, I'm going to apply to both LPN and RN programs for next fall and see what happens. I'm 41, so waiting isn't really a good option for me, I need to get moving!
