Has anyone had a patient who reported having a near death experience while in the hospital? If so, what did they say about it? I am wondering how common this is, and if the medical profession has an opinion on whether it is a real experience or imagined due to physiological stress. I personally believe it is something really experienced.
I have never had a patient report this, but a close relative told me with great detail about having a very vivid "dream" (her term) where she saw shadows behind clouds that were over a body of water. The shadows were relatives deceased long ago who were lauging and talking with her. This happened while she was in a coma in the ICU. Thanks for any input on this subject.

I started a thread not long ago titled, "Ghostly experiences"..there were a lot of ghost type stories but also several near death ones posted..if you do a search for the thread you will find some interesting stories there. BTW, I to believe ..:) erin
