NCLEX 2017, Self review. Passed in 75 Questions

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

First of all, I would like to thank our Lord almighty. I said to myself if I pass the exam I will write my experience. I graduated year 2009 from the Philippines.

I started studying last week of August 2017 basically I had 13 weeks to prepare for the exam. Since its purely self-review I had many doubts in my mind. Don't push yourself when studying. If you felt tired, stop and take a break. Give time for yourself and most especially have enough sleep. Pray before you start studying. Ask for guidance that you will understand what you are studying and reading.

These are the resources I used

1. Saunders Comprehensive Review by Silvestre. My rating: 8.5

Almost of the Nursing topics/subject was covered but some topics was not included but you can research it. Read and comprehend, you don't need to memorize the whole book but to understand with your heart. I studied the book by unit. Nursing sciences 2 days, Fundamentals 2 days, Maternity 3-4 days, Pediatric 3-4 days, Mental health 3 days and in adult disorder by system is like 1-2 days. But it depends on your pacing. I finished the book in 1 month with lots of break. Lol

2. Saunders Q and A by Silvestre. My rating: 8

This is the partner of the Comprehensive book. The rationales are good. Nice layout because you don't need to flip over for the answers.

3. PDA by LaCharity. My rating 8.

If your weakness is prioritization You need this book. The questions was difficult. What I don't like is the answer and rationales is at the back of the book. You always flip and read again the questions.

4. UWorld. My rating 9.5

This is the real thing. It's like NCLEX exam in your phone or tablet. The rationales was great because each options has its own explanation why this is wrong or correct. Read and understand the explanation. It really helps. Some of the questions in my exam is also here. Lol

Exam day.

Pray before you start the exam ask for guidance the He will guide you all throughout the exam period. Take a deep breath and relax. Answer the questions as far as you can remember what you have studied. Don't fret when you cannot answer some questions. It's normal. The funny thing is some test taker as what I have read in this forum, they want that the computer will stop at number 75. I felt the other way around because on my 60th question, I prayed to God that don't let the computer stops because I felt that I did not get enough correct answer. Lol. But when I click "next" on my 75th question it stops and I am shocked. OMG. What? Did I pass or fail the exam? But move on and answer the research section. After that, pray before you leave the exam center.

I got 12 SATA, 3 drag and drop, 5 Prioritization, No meds calculation but a lot of Pharma.

After the exam.

I went out the testing center, and felt defeated by the NCLEX exam. It is normal reaction. Lol.

The waiting game is to find out whether you passed or failed the exam. During the 3 days of waiting, I cried, prayed, cried again, felt depressed and worried, had panic attack because of the inevitable outcome of the exam. Lol. After 3 days, got an email and ace the NCLEX exam with flying colors. Just believe and always pray. God is with you.

Congrats and what a powerful post! All things work according to Gods will and plan!

Congratulations! Did you take NCLEX-PN or RN? Did the board ask for any special (or specific) requirements since you've graduated years ago? I graduated year 2012 back in the Philippines, took NCLEX-PN here in U.S. (since I'm not eligible to take NCLEX RN) three years ago and failed. I was so devastated, but I want to try and take it again this year. Your post served as an encouragement for me, especially knowing you're a 2009 graduate; I feel like I can bounce back, and get my nursing career back on track.
