NCLEX-RN EXPERIENCE

Published

My experience of NCLEX was great. Before taking my NCLEX I used this site and read so many posts from different people and I would say it was informational and helpful but overwhelming. I took my NCLEX in August 2014 and passed for the first time. It was mainly fundamental I would say. Yes I had select all that apply but this motivated me because that shows that I am doing OK so it did not bother me. I think what throws off people is that we focus on med surge and all the diseases yet forget the basics.

This is how I studied and what I did. I graduated in May of 2014 and our school uses Hurst review. I liked this review because of how the content is broken down which is by system basically. We did three days review after finishing our classes. It was tiring to say the least and anyone could relate to this because at that time I felt information overload. Nevertheless, the lady who was doing the review had great sense of humor that kept us put. I used sounders CD, I think this is a must have for content review. The CD has a lot of questions especially it has alternative style questions which I think are around 500. I mainly used the CD and if there was something that sounded unfamiliar or unclear I would go to the book. I also used NCLEX 4000 I loved it. The questions are bit challenging which was great. I used Kaplan mainly for strategy I did only 46% of my Q bank. I studied for about 40 days: I had a study partner I find it helpful because you will motivate and push one another. I did at least 75 Questions a day plus some content review. I also used the 30 page review I found in this website.

I think NCLEX is no different than any other test you took. I believe if you finished your nursing courses and studied the material well, not only for the test, you will succeed. I think the anxiety is very high and that is when we miss very little things which in turn messes up everything.

It is a mind-set so don't just say I will try it: say I am ready to rock it. And for God sake pray to God before you go into the computer and take some nice deep breaths before you click begin. Well that is what I did and this little brain that God blessed me with remembered the information that I needed.

Hope this was helpful and informative.
