Navy Nursing

Published

Hey everyone,

I'm a long time lurker on these forums. A little background- I've wanted to be a navy nurse for 8+ years. I was born in Jacksonville, North Carolina. My dad was in the marines and I was born in a naval hospital. I graduated nursing school a little over 2 years ago and have worked neuro/med surg for a year and a half, ER for 6 months and recently went back to the VA and I'm working in MICU. I finished my BSN 10 months ago and since then have been trying to commission as a nurse. So what everyone says about it being a long process is true. I wanted to serve in any capacity and my recruiter told me that there wasn't many active duty spots left this fiscal year so I went with reserves. I applied for med surg since that had the most slots and I have the most experience in that specialty. My question is has anyone else applied this year and if so how long did take to hear anything? And once you heard the boards decision how long after that did you go to OCS? And really just ANY experiences or stories are appreciated. I have been working towards this for so long that it's gottwn to the point I'm unsure if it'll ever happen. My recruiter told me there was more spots than applicants and he said I'm very competitive so I'm hoping for the best. Wish all of you the best of luck!

James
