Navy Nursing as a New Grad

Published

I am currently 3 years into my BSN program and I have started to heavily consider military nursing to start my career. My question is can I join the navy as a nurse immediately after graduation and passing the NCLEX? I will have almost 4 years of EMT experience once I graduate and I'm wondering if that counts for anything. I'd like to get into some sort of ER/ trauma nursing in the Navy. I haven't talked to a recruiter yet but I have heard for the Navy you can sign up a year in advanced and could pay for my last year of school. My school is very small and only offers the nursing program therefore doesn't have any type of ROTC or NCP. Any input or advice would be appreciated!

Conner,

You can join the Navy as a Direct Accession after you pass your NCLEX. There are currently bonuses offered. You would likely work med-surg for about a year and then request to be transferred to the ER. I hope that helps!
