I am currently 23 and just got my LPN, I'm applying to Bachelors programs now for nursing and have been reading about the NCP.
I am perfectly capable of paying my way through the program myself, but that would be with working full time, so having a stipend to help with expenses would be fantastic for me, but I was wondering about how to go about getting into the HPSP to receive education as a CRNA in the Navy as well.
Step 1. Get Accepted to the NCP ($10,000 bonus taxable, $1000 stipend untaxable?)
Step 2. Graduate with BSN
Step 3. Go to Active Duty, repaying 4 years (Right? 4 Years?)
Step 4. Use Active Duty time to gain ICU experience for CRNA school
Step 5. Apply for the HPSP for CRNA school
Step 6. 2-3 years Inactive Duty for School (with stipend of approx $1900 I hear?)
Step 7. Repay 2-3 years of Active Duty
My exact question being, once I finish Step 4, can I get into the HPSP BEFORE my 4 years is repaid? and tack on that missed active duty time to Step 7? Or will I have to finish out those 4 years before even considering applying for the HPSP?
This is the only question I have that will affect whether I try for the NCP in Navy or if I wait for my BSN to apply to HPSP in the Air Force.
Thanks in Advance for the help.
