NA-C Specialty training - Good enough for Nursing School?

Published

Hello allnurses!

This is my first post, and I am very excited to have found this very valuable resource for nurses and nursing hopefuls.

I am a pre-nursing student and I have yet to build on my work and volunteer experience to become a stronger candidate for the nursing programs in my state (WA). I get very nervous and worked up over the idea that my GPA alone will not cut it (my cumulative GPA is currently at a 3.48). My community college has recently offered a Nurse Delegation Training with an Emphasis in Diabetes course, as well as Mental Health and Dementia Specialty Training course for NA-C's. Will utilizing the training from these courses as a certified nursing assistant make me a more competitive applicant for LPN programs in my state? That is to say, will my experience and specialty knowledge of healthcare as an NA-C give me a leg up on the competition?

Thanks for your time!
