My lab instructor just won't give me a fair grade!

Has anyone been in this situation before? I'm doing very well in my other classes, and my other professors seem to really like my work. But I just cannot make my lab instructor happy. It's the most subjective class I have as far as grading.

Today we did check offs on sterile wound care including sterile gloving. She actually LEFT to go do other things in the middle of my skill checkoff - THREE times! Then she graded me 5 out of 10 on both sterile gloving and would care. She couldn't really give me a good reason why it was so low, just that I didn't seem like I had it "together". What! You're the one that left three times! The other instructor checked off two people in the time she took to check me off, including her "absence".

I just don't think I can be expected to do as well stopping and starting so many times as my classmates who got to go straight through. I told her I need to know what I did wrong, and she said we can "talk about it in the morning."

What should I do? If she doesn't do something to make it right, should I go over her head?

Thx,

I would talk to her in the morning and point out exactly what you stated here. See what she has to say. Maybe she was distracted for a valid reason and just didn't realize how much her leaving affected you. If she won't budge I might think about going over her head if you find she continually doesn't give you a fair shake.
