My college is not offering the Federal Loan program starting in Fall 2013

Nursing Students ADN/BSN

Hi, I start college this Spring and yesterday at orientation I found out from financial aid that they were not going to be doing the federal loan program. I don't know what to do, I have 2 kids, single, unemployed and I got my financial aid but how am I going to pay for expenses if I can't get a loan? I can't apply for a private loan because my daughter was born premature and had A LOT of medical bills so I had to file bankruptcy. I also cannot get a cosigner. I would LOVE to be able to find a job to help out but it's not working that way for me, I've looked everywhere. I'm pursuing my ADN. I researched the program and if I'm accepted how am I going to pay for the extra's. Like my Hep-B shots, my graduate nursing pin, scrubs for clinicals etc. It all adds up and I just don't have money like that. Plus I found out I have to drive almost an hour and 15 minutes to do my clinicals. There is no other community colleges in my area, and there is one University but how do I pay for that, it's expensive. I don't know what I'm going to do. I have researched grants and scholarships and how to get a private loan with out a cosigner and really bad credit. It's all overwhelming, has anyone ever been in this situation and do you have any ideas of how I can get help? Thanks!

P.S. My college is a accredited college.

Hello!

I am in a similar situation. My school offers loans but, I dont qualify because I already have a (useless) BS degree. Check with your local Unemployment office. There is a program called WIA-Workforce Investment Act (which may have a slightly different name in your area). This program pays all expenses for job training, which includes ADN/AAS programs (but not BSN). Also, with this program you get to keep your Pell Grant since it pays for everything (tuition, books, fees, supplies, uniforms, watches, etc). Great Program, but I dont qualify since I have a BS.

Thank you so much and I will check that out!

NEW INFO:

I just found out that you can still qualify for this program if you have a BS degree. Turns out, I was given the wrong information by somebody who SHOULD not have been answering that type of question. Anywhooo, bad info cost me a few bucks, but hopefully I will have everything straightened out and ready for next semester.
