Nurses General Nursing
Published Apr 21, 2000
I am currently working on prereqs to obtain my MSN. My problem is although I know I want my Masters I haven't decieded a speciality to go into. I have sereral to choose from from Clinical Nurse Specialist in Adult to Parent-Child and Psych. I also can choose from Nurse Practioner (which is what I am leaning towards) In fields from Adult, Family, Geriatric, Nurse Midwife, Neonatal or Pediatric. I guess I would like any input from nurses out there in these fields to help me deciede.

I think you need to look at the job market in your area, and if there is a demand for NP's. I would suggest you talk to NP's who live in your area. What area do you practice in now...pediatrics? Adult health? acute care? You also have to think about what you want to do with your advanced degree once you get it. Do you want to teach? Consult? Or do you still want to have contact with patients? Hopefully this will help you decide. Just for your information, I am currently in a program to be an acute care nurse practitioner. Please feel free to email me privately if you want/need any further information.
