MSN Programs for Non-Nurses

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

I'll be graduating with my non-nursing bachelor's degree next spring, and I've been researching direct-entry MSN and some BSN/MSN programs to apply to in the fall. There are, however, a few of specific criteria that the programs I will apply to must meet:

1. They must allow prerequisite courses to be completed by the time the program starts, not by the application date.

2. They allow students who are still in progress on their bachelor's degrees to apply, as long as they are conferred by the time the program starts

3. They must offer nurse practitioner programs, not CNL, informatics, etc. exclusively.

Two programs I am very interested in are Vanderbilt's PreSpecialty Entry and Emory's combined BSN/MSN. In my research for similar programs, though, I'm running into problems finding programs that meet all of these criteria. As a current undergraduate student, I also get the vibe from some programs that they are more oriented at working professionals with conferred bachelor's degrees that are looking to make a career change, rather than straight-out-of-undergrad applicants. I am, of course, in the process of continued research and contact with programs to get my questions answered. However, as a supplement to that, I thought it might be helpful to get some recommendations from those who have perhaps been in my shoes recently or simply know of some schools that might fit the bill, just to help get me pointed in the right direction.

I would be so grateful for anyone's help or insight! Thanks!
