Introduction

You are invited to participate in a research project being conducted by a graduate nursing student from Western Governors University. Stefanie M. Pease-Romero, BSN, RN is conducting research to determine perceived rates of assault in adult critical care settings and factors associated with these assaults.

Description of the project:

This project seeks to understand the extent of the problem of assault within the critical care setting and evaluate factors in situations resulting in an assault of nursing staff. The goal of this research is to understand modifiable factors in an assault experience in an effort to identify knowledge gaps and structure improved prevention and intervention strategies specific to the critical care setting. Participants will be asked to complete a brief ten question, electronic survey.

Benefits and risks of this study:

The potential benefits of this study will be to help nursing leadership identify knowledge gaps, focus education, and improve assault prevention and intervention strategies for Registered Nurses (RNs), Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), and Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) within critical care. Participants will have no real benefit from participation. There are no identified risks to participants.

Confidentiality:

Participant responses are voluntary and will be kept confidential. Responses will be anonymous. All responses will be compiled together and analyzed as a group.

Voluntary participation and withdrawal:Participation in this survey is voluntary and participants may choose to not answer any question(s) on the survey. Once the survey is submitted, it may not be retracted due to its anonymous collection.
