My husband filed for early separation from the Air Force earlier this year. We will be moving to a Temple Terrace where he grew up, assuming they approve him. I've been watching the VA website, but I'm wondering about Moffit, Florida hospital, and Tampa General. I work on a bariatric/general surgical floor, and by the time we move, I will have about a year of med/surg experience, and half a year of geripsych. I don't work on the psych unit anymore, and I would prefer to stay on a unit I'm familiar with, preferably general surgery. Are those hospitals difficult to get interviews at? I know 3 of those hospitals are within driving distance, and Tampa General is a bit of a drive.
We currently live in Arkansas (I'm originally from Houston), and I'm also curious about pay.

You didnt mention St Joseph's hospital, Im not sure if you're familar with it. It's not too far from Florida hospital. Ive' been working there for almost 3 yeras now as a Rn. When i first started working there, as a brand new nurse they started me at 23.00. I now make $27 and some change before the $5.00/hr night shift differential.
I hadn't heard of St. Joseph's. I have another hospital where I can apply:) Thanks! I just saw the jobs on there right now. When they say "post-surgical," do they mean they mean like PACU or IMU?

ATRUELADY - did you have to go through a residency program as a brand new nurse at St. Joes?
When I applied 3 years ago it was for a position in their graduate nurse residency program
You're welcome!! I really enjoy working at St Joes...
Ok thank you! And that's the only way they hire in new grads I heard? Good to know you like it there, I know a nurse at north that really likes it. Any word on when South is opening?
When I spoke to human resources I was told January 2015
