Hi,

So im planning on moving to switzerland next year with my partner. Im a registered nurse from Ireland working in anaesthetics and recovery.

Im just wondering wht it is like to work as a nurse in switzerland. Is there much difference? I will be moving to Geneva, so im also wondering do all the staff speak french with each other?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Thank you :)

Hi,

I was in the same position as you, but since there are really no english-speaking nursing options, we're considering taking the move to Italy, were there are military bases that hire civilian nurses. For me, a year is just not enough to become fluent in a foreign language!

To work as a nurse in Switzerland, you must be fluent in one of the 4 major languages of the country, Since you'll be living in Geneva, that would be French and passing an advance language exam is a part of certification in the country.. You should contact the Swiss Red Cross, for more information. They are in charge of all nursing in Switzerland and, I have heard, are very informative in terms of getting you prepared to move and work there. I've read that they even direct people to advanced language courses

There is also a lot more information on these boards!
