Moving from FL to East TN

U.S.A. Tennessee

Published

I'm a Florida RN with 10+ years of experience who have worked in different hospital units including med/surg, PCU, cardiac, neuro, surgical, ARU, observational, ED, with Orlando Health and AdventHealth. After carefully thinking for some years, I decided to move soon to East TN around the area of Pigeon Forge/Sevierville, TN. I'm tired of all the traffic and so much construction in FL and would love to move to East TN. (I've been in East TN at least 3 times every single year for the past 12 years and love it; I know visiting is not the same as living, but what I've seen and heard from the nice people who live there had made me fall in love with that area). I need some guidance on how to obtain my TN nursing license to work in a hospital there and have some questions. I don't have a place to stay there yet.

1) To obtain a RN job in TN, should I do a multistate RN license in the meantime to work in a hospital in East TN, or can I obtain the TN nursing license without moving there yet?

2) What are the requirements to work there as a RN?

3) What is usually the nurse to patient ratio in East TN around Sevierville, TN?

4) How much do they usually pay a RN with this kind of experience?

5) Do hospitals around Sevierville, TN have PRN jobs for nurses?

6) What are good hospitals for RNs to work around that area?

7) What is a good area to buy a house and live around Sevierville, TN that is good to raise kids and that is safe? (I'd love to have a house with a good amount of land).

8- What middle schools, high schools and colleges are good there? I have a 10, 14, and 20 year old. (My 20 year old daughter has done the general college classes and would like to become an American Sign Language interpreter from a college there)

I have a good idea on the above, except about the TN nursing license, but please provide as much information I can get about all the above. Thank you for all your information in advance.
